Maureen Hinda-Mbuende demands N$1 million from Dr. Job Amupanda

Deputy Minister of Finance Maureen Hinda-Mbuende is seeking a payment of one million dollars from AR Activist and former Mayor of Windhoek, Dr. Job Amupanda, accusing him of defaming her character.

In her testimony before the High Court, Hinda-Mbuende alleged that in 2022, Amupanda posted a picture of an unknown person, followed by a malicious caption labelling the picture as that of the deputy minister, a person with no moral fibre and thus unable to be trusted for a public office.

The Deputy Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, emphasised the crucial role of agriculture in ensuring food sustainability, not only in Africa but also globally.

Speaking during the opening of the SADC Development Finance Institutions Chief Executive Officers Forum in Swakopmund, Hinda-Mbuende also stressed the need for cooperation among SADC countries to promote sustainable agricultural practises and enhance food production in the region.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, says the SADC integrated development agenda has been adversely affected by economic challenges, the recent global COVID-19 pandemic, and international geopolitics.

Hinda-Mbuende said this during the opening of the SADC Development Finance Institutions Chief Executive Officers Forum in Swakopmund.

Tax Amendment Bill tabled in National Assembly to provide relief to taxpayers

The Namibian government wants to implement new measures to provide relief to taxpayers through the introduction of an Income Tax Amendment Bill, tabled in the National Assembly this week.

Motivating the bill, Deputy Finance Minister Maureen Hinda-Mbuende proposed a rise in the threshold for the pension fund deductible amount, from N$40 thousand to N$150 thousand.

It also suggests a rise in the taxable amount for educational expenditures to encourage taxpayers to save more for their children.

Finance Deputy Minister introduces changes to VAT, Stamp Duties and Income Tax

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, has tabled amendments to three laws in the financial sector in the National Assembly.

These are the Value Added Tax, Stamp Duties, and the Income Tax.

In her motivation, Hinda-Mbuende explained that the proposed changes to the Value Added Tax deal with amendments to the definition and the assessment of what taxable activities are.

National Assembly MPs speak on mental health

This follows a motion tabled by PDM member in the house, Winnie Moongo, on what she termed the deplorable and inhospitable mental health institutions and facilities in the country.

The motion seeks awareness of the plight and situation of these centres so as to improve their conditions.
