Namibian descendants to gain recognition in Botswana

Communities of Namibian descent living in Botswana are likely to be recognized by that country's government and could occupy influential positions, including in the House of Traditional Chiefs.

That is if the recommendations by Botswana's Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Review of the Constitution are passed without countervailing views.

The proposed recommendations are yet to be debated in Botswana's Parliament. nbc News's Blanche Goreses spoke to a former member of the Presidential Commission, Dikarabo Ramadubu.

SACU member states to benefit from reduced trade costs

Accredited traders in Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, and South Africa will now benefit from reduced trade costs and simplified import-export procedures.

This positive development is the result of a mutual recognition arrangement signed by the five member states of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).

Through the agreement, the Commissioners General of Revenue Authorities in the five countries agreed to recognise one another's authorised economic operators (AEO).

The Kavango Zambezi (KAZA) Transfrontier Conservation Area launched an Energy Efficiency Network in Kasane, Botswana, on Thursday.

The project is aimed at assisting selected enterprises in Chobe district, Kasane in Botswana, and lodges in the Zambezi Region to identify suitable energy and carbon dioxide-saving technical solutions.

The twelve enterprises that entered into an agreement with KAZA will also be provided with expert information on available energy-efficient and renewable energy.

Namibia and Botswana promise a joint improvement of border management

The governments of Namibia and Botswana will jointly ensure that robust information technology systems and infrastructure are put in place to improve border management and allow the two countries' national systems to function seamlessly with one another.

This follows the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement, which paves the way for the use of national ID cards in travel between citizens of the two countries, on Friday.

The use of passports for citizens between Namibia and Botswana will soon be something of the past.

On Friday, the two countries will sign a Memorandum of Agreement to permit the use of national identity cards from each country as travel documents to cross their borders.

The Botswana Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs has confirmed.

The signing of the agreement will take place at the Mamuno/Trans-Kalahari border post this Friday.

Namibia and Botswana are expected to unveil the one-stop border post at the Mamuno-Trans Kalahari Border Post soon, which will operate on a 24-hour basis.

The need to finalize the necessary work and operationalize the border post into a one-stop shop was emphasized during the one-day working visit of Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi to Namibia on Sunday, on invitation by President Hage Geingob.
