Namibia seeks scholarships from Japan

The Minister in the Presidency, Christine ||Hoebes, has appealed to Japan to provide assistance in training Namibians in emerging sectors such as Green Hydrogen, oil, and gas.

||Hoebes, along with other Cabinet Ministers, held discussions with the visiting Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry and his delegation at State House.


Japan ranks among the top Asian countries with advanced industries in technology required for the production of energy, including green hydrogen and other sources of energy.

NamRA to leave no stone unturned in implementing Tax Law Enforcement Strategy

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) says it will leave no stone unturned in implementing its Tax Law Enforcement Strategy to ensure that what is owed to the state is paid.

Soon after its establishment, NamRA continued its drive to optimise Namibia's tax revenue collection.

This has led to some reforms at NamRA offices countrywide to ensure compliance by companies and individuals.

Previously, regional offices such as the one at Oshakati were reported to have not been meeting revenue collection targets owing to non-compliance by taxpayers.

State House grateful to President Geingob for his exceptional leadership

The State House has extended a message of gratitude to President Geingob for his exceptional leadership.

In a statement, the State House said that on June 18, 1989, after 27 years in exile fighting for the liberation of Namibia, President Geingob led the first group of senior Swapo freedom fighters back to Namibia.

They would later play a pivotal role in the transition of Namibia to independence in 1990 and the socio-economic development of the Namibian people.

State House has dismissed claims made by a local daily newspaper, which alleged that President Hage Geingob had warned locals against interfering in the Hyphen Hydrogen Energy green hydrogen project.

In a statement, the presidency says Dr. Geingob was urging Namibians not to miss out on the transformative opportunity of green hydrogen.

Heineken International intends to keep Namibia Breweries Limited brand

Dutch beer brewing giant Heineken International intends to keep the Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) brand as it is and further increase employment by localising production.

The top management of Heineken and NBL paid a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob at State House.

Heineken International last month concluded the acquisition of the majority shares in the country's giant beverage producer, Namibia Breweries, and Distell Group Holdings.

Finland returns extracted stone fragments of the Ondonga people

Finland has returned the extracted stone fragments of the Ondonga people to the Namibian government.

The handover was done at State House, witnessed by President Hage Geingob and his counterpart, Sauli Niinisto of Finland.

The stone fragments were taken by a Finnish missionary, Martii Rautanen, more than 130 years ago from the Ondonga kingdom.

Rautanen was believed to be on a research mission when he came across the stone and took parts of it for experiments.

President Hage Geingob welcomes new foreign Heads of Mission

President Hage Geingob has urged the new foreign Heads of Mission to improve trade and industry development between Namibia and their respective countries.

Dr. Geingob received letters of credence from ten new diplomatic Heads of Mission accredited to Namibia at State House today (Thursday).

As diplomatic tradition dictates, after the presentation of letters of credence, the diplomats can now perform their full functions in Namibia as the receiving state.

State House dismisses claims on Vice President Nangolo Mbumba's retirement plans

State House has dismissed claims that Vice President Nangolo Mbumba announced plans to retire without giving a specific date.

State House, in a statement, said that since the Vice President serves at the behest of the head of state as the appointing authority, it would be strange for Mbumba to announce his retirement plans at a public meeting.

The statement said Mbumba indicated to NEKA members that he would not run for any government position after his term ends in March 2025.

No truth to assertions attributed to Vice President Nangolo Mbumba - State House

State House says there is simply no truth to assertions made in the local daily newspaper article, attributed to Vice President Nangolo Mbumba.

The article was titled 'Young people will never win elections—Mbumba, as he announces retirement plans', which State House says is false.

Vice President Mbumba addressed the re-union meeting of the Namibian Exiled Kids Association over the weekend, where he called on the youth to embrace the motto 'One Namibia, One Nation', as the statement says.
