Namibia congratulates King Charles III

Messages of congratulations started pouring in ahead of the coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camilla tomorrow as king and queen of the United Kingdom.

Speaker of the National Assembly Professor Peter Katjavivi says the coronation of King Charles III marks a new chapter for the commonwealth family.

This will be the first coronation after 70 years. 

King Charles III became king immediately after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II in September last year.

ECN to conduct various surveys on voter apathy and low voter turnout

The Electoral Commission of Namibia will conduct surveys to determine factors that contribute to voter apathy and low voter turnout in electoral processes. 

This was highlighted during the motivation of the budgetary allocation of the Electoral Commission of Namibia.

In his motivation, the National Assembly Speaker Professor Peter Katjavivi said voter apathy and low voter turnout have been eminently evident during the period of 1998 - 2020 in respect of the Regional Council and Local Authority elections, by-elections as well as national elections.

The National Assembly Speaker, Professor Peter Katjavivi, has tabled a petition received from the committee representing former Air Namibia employees in the house this afternoon.

In the petition, the ex-Air Namibia workers demand an audience with President Hage Geingob to share some of their grievances with him.

They further want the liquidators to settle the severance package agreement signed between them and the government.

NA Speaker Prof. Katjavivi says people with disabilities are faced with numerous challenges

The speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi says people with disabilities in Namibia are faced with numerous challenges. He is now calling on the public to become involved in issues affecting those with disabilities in an effort to promote inclusiveness.

Katjavivi was speaking at the closing of the two-day National Disabilities Conference in Windhoek on Friday.

Dr Tjivikua made the call at the launch of the centennial celebrations of St. Barnabas Primary School.
