MPs urges government to ensure effective implementation of projects

Members of Parliament in the National Council commended the government for the substantial increment in this year's national budget. 

They are, however, concerned about a lack of implementation strategies.

MPs pointed out shortcomings in the allocation and execution of funds within key ministries, including health and agriculture.

New curriculum's implementation a challenge - NANSO

The Namibia National Students Organisation, NANSO, says there is a misconception about the new education curriculum, such as that it is not well crafted to respond to the needs of learners and the country at large.

The student body says the curriculum is well crafted, adding that implementation appears to be a challenge.

NANSO spokesperson Dorthea Nangolo says that on paper, the curriculum speaks to the country's aspirations for academic excellence.

Effective execution of the plan, though, remains a matter of concern, she says.

Strict measures needed to monitor budget implementation

A strong parliament budget office is needed to analyse and take action with regards to debt strategy as well as budget monitoring.

This is contained in a presentation by Macroeconomic Expert Dr. Omu Kakujaha-Matundu during the 2023–2024 Mid-Year Budget Analysis and Advocacy meeting for MPs.

Dr. Kakujaha-Matundu explained that the aim is to capacitate MPs to hold ministries accountable for failing to execute their duties as per the allocated budgets.

MEFT develops National Human Wildlife Conflict Action Plan

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism is developing a five-year National Human-Wildlife Conflict Action Plan.

The action plan comes after the Cabinet's approval of the resolutions of the first National Conference on Human-Wildlife Conflict Management that was held earlier this year.

Cabinet directed the ministry to develop a five-year action plan for implementation of the resolution within three months.

Cabinet has approved the revised National Resettlement Policy 2023–2033 for implementation.

The proposed revisions to the policy include grouping beneficiaries into three main target groups.

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Peya Mushelenga, shared this as part of the decisions taken during the Cabinet meeting this week.

Premier calls on Otjozondjupa leadership to implement Performance Management System

Prime Minister Saara Kuugogelwa-Amadhila is calling on the leadership of the Otjozondjupa Region to up their game in terms of performance and implement the Performance Management System in their respective offices.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the top leadership of the region, such as Governor James Uerikua and Regional Chairperson Marlayn Mbakera, visited the Kalkfeld settlement, where only about 100 of its 4000 inhabitants are employed.
