Fishing sector indebted to Geingob

Key players in the country's fishing sector say they are indebted to the late President Hage Geingob for saving it from imminent collapse, especially at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Geingob's intervention to keep the fishing sector running when most of the sectors were closing down saved jobs and the Namibian economy alike.

The fisheries sector is among Namibia's key foreign income earners and among the largest employers.

President Geingob appreciates nurses' selfless commitment and sacrifices

President Hage Geingob says the important role of nurses, their selfless commitment and sacrifices cannot go unappreciated.

Geingob joined in to commemorate International Nurses Day.


International Nurses Day is celebrated annually worldwide, to recognise the contribution of nurses to healthcare and raises awareness of the crucial role they play in promoting general health and wellness.

President Geingob says in doing so, Namibians recognise the extraordinary contributions of local nurses in the healthcare system and the well-being of the Namibian nation.

National Council MP's commends Health ministry

MPs in the National Council have applauded the Ministry of Health and Social Services for some major achievements and completed programs during the previous fiscal year.

The MPs called on the government to consider employing community extension health workers who helped health professionals and community members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They have also requested that rural clinics operate on weekends and build more facilities that are accessible to people with disabilities.

60% of the sector that makes up  the country's economy still to recover from COVID-19

Local economist Theo Klein says 60% of the sectors that make up the country's economy have not yet recovered from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Klein made the remarks during a presentation on the economic landscape of Namibia in Windhoek.

Klein says wholesale and retail, construction, financial services, and manufacturing are just some of the sectors struggling to make it back to pre-pandemic levels. 

However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for other industries.

NWR takes lead in reviving |Ai-|Ais Transfontier commitments made prior to COVID-19

The Namibia Wild Resort has taken the lead in reviving |Ai-|Ais Transfrontier Park, as part of commitments made before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its Managing Director, Dr Matthias Ngwangwama, travelled to Pretoria to assess progress in developing cross-border tourism products and events within the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park.

The ǀAi-ǀAis/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park is a protected cross-border park, spanning the border between South Africa and Namibia.
