Students unhappy with the Rent Control Bill delays

The Students Union of Namibia (SUN) has expressed dissatisfaction with delays in the enactment of the Rent Control Bill.

The bill seeks to regulate rental fees.

The bill has been worked on by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development since 2017 and was delayed due to pending regulations.

In the meantime, Namibians will continue to feel the pinch of exorbitant rent rates, particularly students who are left with no choice and resort to degrading means to have accommodation, says the union.

Babylon residents unhappy about the decision by City of Windhoek to divide plots

Residents of the Babylon informal settlement in the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency have voiced their concerns regarding a decision by the City of Windhoek to divide plots where they currently reside to accommodate more informal settlers.

Some are feeling aggrieved, as they believe that the plots they are being allocated are too small to accommodate their large families.

Otjiwarongo Single Quarter residents not happy with municipality's decongestion plan

Residents living in the Otjiwarongo Single Quarters are still at loggerheads with the municipality over the implementation of the decongestion plan.

Since the beginning of the year, residents and the council have been at loggerheads, following a  decision to decongest the overcrowded single-quarters units in the town.

The plans to decongest the units means improving the living conditions of residents by relocating them to either the Kamp 5 or Saamstaan settlements.

The residents of Ekunde 4 and 5 in Okahandja are unhappy with a hazardous landfill that is in close proximity to the settlement amid fears that it may pose life-threatening health risks.

Okahandja Municipality has set its sights on developing 295 plots with new roads, electricity, water, and sewerage networks in the area at a cost of roughly N$24 million in the near future.
