Impasse on where new school in Ndama Informal Settlement should be constructed resolved

The Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council, Damian Maghambayi, says the impasse on where a new school in Rundu's Ndama Informal Settlement should be constructed has been resolved.

The community of Ndama West demanded the school be constructed in their area as originally planned because the area does not have a single school.

Maghambayi says wherever the school is constructed, be it in Ndama South or Ndama West, its location will be beneficial to all residents.

Prime Minister affirms government's continued commitment to social investment

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila reflected on the government's social investments during a belated independence celebration at Mbambi village in the Mukwe Constituency.

Permanent solutions to human-wildlife conflict needed- Maghambayi

Mukwe Constituency Councillor Damian Maghambayi is calling for permanent solutions to human-wildlife conflict, involving elephants. 

Maghambayi says many villages close to the Mahango Game Park are losing their crops to elephants escaping from the game park.

The Councillor made the call when he visited some affected crop farmers at Kangundja village.

Maghambayi has proposed the establishment of a conservancy in the area, calling on the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Forest to educate the people on the benefits they will derive from it.

Mike du Preez & employees defend circulated clips as harmless game

The owner of Petroport at Rundu, Mike du Preez, and his employees have come out in defense of a video that showed employees being beaten.

Both the employer and employee claimed the beating was part of a game they play at work, which has been taken out of context.

The clip circulating on social media is accompanied by an explanation that employees there are beaten in exchange for loans requested from the company.

Heavy rains destroy 36 homesteads in Kavango East Region

About 36 homesteads were damaged by heavy rains during this week at Shamaghongo Village in Kavango East Region. Currently some affected villagers are being accommodated in their neighbours' houses. The Councilor of Mukwe Constituency Damian Maghambayi called on good Samaritans to assist the villagers. He stress that it takes long for one to fix a damaged thatch roof house, and hopes that those left homeless could be accommodated in tents.

Kavango East Regional Council only managed to implement 70% of its intended projects in the 2022–2023 financial year.

This was revealed at a review and planning meeting held at Rundu.

During the review process, various divisions and directorates delivered presentations, highlighting their achievements and challenges faced during the 2022–2023 financial year.

Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council, Damian Maghambayi, stated that most of the directorate failed to accomplish their targets due to budget constraints.

Maghambayi made these remarks while reporting on numerous successful projects in his constituency during the annual Constituency Development Feedback and Project Review Briefing meeting. 

Government urged to review policy that determines allocation of clinics to rural communities

The Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council, Damian Maghambayi, has called on the government to review the policy that informs which communities can receive clinics.

Maghambayi, who is also the Mukwe Constituency Councillor, says many communities in his constituency are deprived of much-needed medical attention as a result of this policy.

Speaking at the launch of a mobile clinic at Andara Roman Catholic Hospital, Maghambayi said many people die while waiting for an ambulance to take them to the hospital.
