The Namibian Police has commissioned a station at Kalimbeza in Kabbe North in response to criminal activities happening in the area.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, says the police presence not only gives security assurance to the community but to visitors alike.

The police have in recent years been making their presence felt in the region by opening new stations; they have commissioned one for Kalimbeza.

Civic Affairs Regional Office construction commissioned in Katima Mulilo

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, commissioned the construction of the Civic Affairs Regional Office and a Class B Police Station at Katima Mulilo on Wednesday.

The government will spend more than N$100 million on the Civic Affairs Regional Office at Katima Mulilo.

Dr. Kawana reiterated that the project's implementation represents the government's clear commitment to public safety and the efficient provision of civic services.

15 passenger vessels and 18 cruise liners expected in Namibia

Namibia is gearing up for the arrival of 15 passenger vessels at the port of Luderitz and 18 cruise liners at the port of Walvis Bay between November 2023 and February 2024.

He specifically voiced apprehensions about young men potentially impregnating multiple women and subsequently taking prolonged leave from work.

Dr. Kawana raised these points in debate over a motion presented by PDM MP Winnie Moongo, which advocates for improved maternity and paternity leaves.

Namibia has over 140,000 undocumented and stateless people.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, and Safety, Dr. Albert Kawana, revealed this at the celebration of International Identity Day.

Dr. Kawana also launched the online tourist visa application.

International Identity Day is celebrated annually on September 16 and is aimed at raising awareness about the importance of identity in empowering individuals to exercise their rights and responsibilities fairly and equitably in society.

NamPol encourages individuals to join community police units

The Police Inspector-General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, and the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, have encouraged more individuals to join the community police units in their respective regions.


Speaking during a community meeting in Zambezi, Lieutenant General Shikongo applauded the region's high number of volunteers who are actively engaged in the community police programme.

Namibian government supports establishing Namibia-Zambia border at Macenje Harbor point

The Namibian government is in support of a proposal by residents of the Impalila Islands to establish a border crossing point at Macenje Harbor, between Namibia and neighboring Zambia.

Namibia's Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, assured the community of the Impalila Islands during a joint visit with his Zambian counterpart, Jacob Mwiimbu.

Kawana said the crossing point is assisting residents on both sides to trade as well as providing medical services to Namibians by the Zambian authority.

First exchange of sentenced inmates in Zambia takes place

The first exchange of sentenced inmates between Namibia and Zambia took place at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.

This is part of the resolution of the Namibia/Zambia joint Permanent Commission on Defense and Security to facilitate the transfer of sentenced offenders who indicated a willingness to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home countries.

15 Zambian and six Namibian convicts sentenced to prison terms were transferred during the ceremony to serve the remainder of their sentences in their countries of origin.

Border security officers called to put an end to rampant stock theft in Kavango West

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has called on border security officers to put an end to rampant stock theft in Kavango West Region. 

Dr. Albert Kawana made the call when he inaugurated phase one of the Namasira police post refurbishment with prefabricated material.

Dr. Kawana says the government continues to improve the living conditions of special field force officers by constructing accommodation facilities along the border.

He called for intensified patrols on the Angola-Namibia border to curb stock theft.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security says accommodation for the police force is a pressing issue that needs a solution.   
 
Dr Albert Kawana said this during the handing over of prefabricated units valued at more than N$1 million at Swakopmund. 


Dr Kawana says the donation by Swakop Uranium of pre-fabricated units of 600 square meters and 60 sets of beds and mattresses, complements his assignment by the president to build a police village.
