nbc commended for collaboration with regional broadcasters

The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) has been commended for its collaboration and engagement with regional broadcasters.

Its role during the mourning period for the death of the late President Hage Geingob became more pronounced when regional and international broadcasters across Africa and the world had to take its feed to broadcast to their people.

The Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, Dr. Audrin Mathe says the nbc is admired in the region for the way it does things.

Standing Committee hearing on 2021 nbc strike

The Executive Director in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology says every effort was made to avoid the May 2021 strike at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation.

Dr. Audrin Mathe appeared before the public hearing of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resources on the nbc strike.

Of particular concern to the Standing Committee was how the strike deductions affected individual employees who took part in the nearly month-long strike.

Namibia seeks to improve press freedom ranking

Namibia is aiming to improve on its top 30 freedom of the media world rankings by Reporters Without Borders.

The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology's Executive Director, Dr. Audrin Mathe, said this at a special award ceremony of the International Festival for Freedom of Expression and the Press (FILEP) in the capital of Burkina Faso, where Namibia was crowned Champion of Press Freedom in Africa.

Namibia had been occupying the top spot consistently over the years and until 2021 before being toppled by the Seychelles last year.

ICT Minister Dr. Mushelega disappointed with non-availability of broadcasting services in Impalila Island

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Peya Mushelega, is disappointed with the non-availability of broadcasting services on Impalila Island.

This comes after a project to build a tower for the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation was abandoned by the contractor more than four years ago.

Dr. Mushelenga, accompanied by the Executive Director, Dr. Audrin Mathe, and MICT staff, visited the site.

He said the absence of a tower on Impalilia Island is robbing residents of radio and television services.
