Unemployed teachers in the Kavango East Region held a demonstration at Rundu, demanding that the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture undertake a mass recruitment exercise.

According to the petition, there are more than 8250 unemployed graduates nationwide, with the number expected to increase to an estimated 3000 graduates countrywide in 2024.

Reading the petition, David Nekaro, the national chairperson of the unemployed teachers committee, says they have engaged the ministry at the regional level as well as the national level, but nothing has been done.

Rapid mushrooming of shacks in Swakopmund a concern

The residents of Ocean View and Mile 4 in Swakopmund have expressed concern over the rapid mushrooming of informal shacks in the settlement of DRC, on the outskirts of the coastal town.

These concerns were raised by the residents during a consultative meeting organized over the weekend by the Swakopmund municipality.

Over the past years, a significant number of people have been flocking to Swakopmund, driven by the pursuit of opportunities in the mining and tourism sectors. Consequently, this has led to a surge in the number of shacks within informal settlements.

Unemployed mother seeks financial support for 6-week-old triplets

A 25-year-old unemployed resident of Swakopmund who is a mother of 6-week-old triplets is calling on the public for assistance to help her take care of her babies.

Klementina Hangula, 25, is overwhelmed after giving birth to triplets at the Swakopmund Hospital last month.

She said she was shocked when the doctor told her she was about to deliver not one, but three bundles of joy.

The triplets are two boys and a girl who are in need of baby formula and baby clothes, among other things.

Unemployed youth in Keetmanshoop have raised their concerns and demanded a halt to the interviews of shortlisted police cadets in the ||Kharas Region.

They claimed that the recruitment shortlisting process is discriminatory and disadvantages the young people of the region.

The youth organised a march to the Police Regional Headquarters in Keetmanshoop, where they handed over a petition expressing their condemnation of the shortlisting process, alleging that it was discriminatory towards the native southerners of the region.

Local experts in artificial intelligence say unemployed graduates can still take advantage of the many opportunities available to them digitally.

Despite the high number of students graduating in various fields every year, it's not guaranteed that they will all get employed.

Artificial intelligence experts Audrey Chanakira and Dr. Asteria Pirola, however, believe that not all is lost.

Graduates can incorporate their qualifications into the fast-paced world of work, and they just need to upskill to build a digital career, they say.

Unemployed Keetmanshoop residents hope to secure position at RA project

Hundreds of job seekers flocked to the Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Office this morning, hoping to secure a position at the N$28 million Road Authority Weigh Bridge construction project.

Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Regional Councillor Joseph Isaack addressed the job seekers on how the job selection for the project would be done.

He explained his office will source Nexus Building Contractor, which was the successful bidder for the project, with company profiles from which it will select subcontractors.

Kavango East Governor calls unemployed teachers to refrain from operating illegal schools

The Governor of Kavango East Region, Bonifatius Wakudumo, has called on unemployed teachers to refrain from operating illegal schools.

Wakudumo says these schools will have to close their doors and allow the learners to be enrolled in formal schools as soon as possible.

The Governor says the government has a responsibility towards every Namibian child as far as education is concerned, and he advises unemployed qualified teachers to follow the right procedure for employment.

The President of the Popular Democratic Movement says with the alarming rate of unemployed young Namibians, many are still finding it tough to fend for themselves, a situation that also renders them unable to contribute to the country's GDP.

Mchenry Venaani said this at a rally held on Sunday at Cincimani in the Zambezi Region.
