Police Call for Caution Around Water Sources

The Namibian Police are appealing to the public to exercise extreme caution when around water sources.

The warning follows increased drowning incidents around the country in the past few days.

Nampol's National Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, is appealing to all not to underestimate the level and power of water.

In the same vein, Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi urged parents to educate and deter their children from playing in and swimming in rivers and oceans.

Fishermen at Tilda Viljoen Dam Concerned About Revellers' Safety

Some fishermen at Gobabis say the Tilda Viljoen Dam near the town is not safe to cross for those who don't know their way around.
 
nbc's video journalist Tuarimbara Kasuto spoke to some fishermen and residents of Gobabis.

The residents are using the place for recreational activities, and others are fishing in the river for their livelihood.

The dam recently claimed the lives of two Ministry of Health employees.

Police Search for Bodies of Drowning Victims

The police in Windhoek are still searching for two bodies after the heavy rains in the capital on Friday.

One is that of an 8-year-old boy who fell into a flowing river at the Grysblok riverbed in Katutura and was flushed away.

The following day, on Saturday, an adult man was also washed away while standing on the edge of a river nearby the Goreangab Dam.

While in pursuit of the body at Goreangab Dam, the police came upon the body of a girl of about 13 to 15 years of age who was found underwater.

Her body was taken to the police mortuary.
