Outjo Cricket development initiative holds coaching clinic in Kamanjab

The Outjo Cricket Development initiative held a coaching clinic in Kamanjab over the weekend as part of its mandate to take the game to all parts of the country.

The two-day coaching clinic was attended by learners from the DF /Uirab Primary and Kamanjab Combined Schools.
 
About 40 learners from the two schools attended the coaching clinic with the aim of taking the children to the next level of hardball cricket, as all of them had been playing mini or kwata cricket.
 

Outjo Circuit learners benefit from Never Walk Alone' project

More than 1 600 learners in the Outjo Circuit, at Kamanjab and Khorixas, have become the latest recipients of school shoes donated by the 'Never Walk Alone' project.

Going to school without shoes exposes learners to sharp objects, harmful bacteria, and hot soil, but they feel embarrassed among their peers.

Project Never Work Alone is a non-profit initiative that raises funds on an annual basis to give needy children pairs of shoes.

Lack of participation among young people in empowerment programs a disappointment- Alfeus Kapolo

The acting senior youth officer at Khorixas says he is disappointed with the lack of participation among young people in programs designed to empower them.

Alfeus Kapolo cited as an example the horticulture gardening project, saying it has become a "white elephant" and forced the staff to keep it running due to a lack of interest from young people in the area.

Kapolo urged young people in the town to be involved in available youth activities, even on a voluntary basis.

Khorixas' extension 11 and 12 residents receives electricity

The Khorixas Town Council has provided water and electricity to residents in extensions 11 and 12 of the informal settlement, better known as Donkerhoek.

This was revealed by Khorixas Mayor, Lena ǂGaeses, during an interview with nbc News.

The mayor said the council has also demarcated plots, formalized the area, and will later transfer ownership into the residents' names.

ǂGaeses promised that the council will bring more development aimed at improving the living conditions of the people, especially those in the informal settlement.

Construction of Khorixas VTC well underway

The Khorixas Mayor, Lena Gaeses, is happy with the progress made towards the construction of the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in the town.

Gaeses, says that once completed the VTC will have an impact on the lives of the residents and the image of the town.

Gaese revealed this in an interview with the nbc News team.

Gaeses believes, the opening of the Khorixas VTC will create more jobs for the residents.

She says the Town Council at its meeting with the Namibia Training Authority, agreed that less specialized jobs be reserved for local people.

Four rapes reported in three days

Since the end of last week, four rapes have been reported in three days.

NamPol's crime report from the 28th of December to the 1st of January recorded two rapes in Swakopmund's Mondesa residential area.

In one incident, an 18-year-old was allegedly raped in an open area in Mondesa's Mathias Hamukwaya Street on December 28.

On December 30, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a suspect who is still on the run.

In Khorixas on Thursday, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old man. The suspect has been arrested.
