Elambo Combined School teachers protest over inconsistencies in bush allowance

Staff members of the Elambo Combined School in the Oshikoto Region petitioned the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture to address inconsistencies in the bush allowances.

Demonstrators claim that staff members at some schools get a bush allowance of N$1,750 per month, but at Elambo Combined School, they get N$1,150 per month.

Teachers said they have been knocking at the ministry's door over the matter since 2012 but with no answers.

Kavango East region expects better examination results

The acting Education Director in the Kavango East Region says despite the difficulties experienced by learners prior to the exams, the region is bound to perform better in 2023 than it did in 2022.

Christine Shilima was speaking ahead of the release of exam results by the Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

Shilima says there were various factors that negatively affected the teaching and learning process, saying some learners were not psychologically ready for the exams.

Retired Education Director for Zambezi granted bail

The retired Education Director for the Zambezi Region, Innocent Mahoto, who stands accused of raping a minor and human trafficking, was granted bail by Katima Mulilo Magistrate Davy Kambinda on Friday.

The incident came to light through the police suggestion box: he impregnated a 15-year-old Zambian girl whose parents worked for him.

His lawyer, Bernard Tjatjara, submitted an urgent application for bail when his client made his first court appearance a week ago.

Deputy Prime Minister holds meeting with education stakeholders at Katima Mulilo

The Deputy Prime Minister, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, held a round-table meeting with education stakeholders at Katima Mulilo.

The roundtable was meant to discuss opportunities and possible solutions to the poor academic performance of last year's national examinations.

Nandi-Ndaitwah reminded the gathering of the importance of education as one of the enablers of development alongside agriculture, tourism, mining, and fishing.

She called upon all to be friends with education and find solutions to its challenges.

The ||Kharas Regional Education Director Johannes ||Hoeseb says the region only has isolated cases of parents still seeking school placement for their children.

The Regional Education Director says three primary schools at Keetmanshoop, namely Mina Sachs Primary School, Kronlein Primary School, and Keetmanshoop Primary School, have reached their full intake capacity.
