The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) says Namibia needs to be vigilant and on high alert, on Marburg Viral Disease particularly at the main border crossings and at public and private facilities.

The country has not detected any case of Marburg viral disease to date.

However, due to increased activity related to international travel and trade, population displacement and migration, the country remains at risk of importation of Marburg Viral Disease.

The public is urged to remain calm while the ministry is activating its preparedness activities.

Marburg Viral Disease is similar to Ebola and human-to-human transmission occurs through direct contact with the body fluids of an infected person, surfaces and materials.

Some of the symptoms are high fever, severe headache and malaise.

Tanzania reported eight cases of Marburg, since detection on March 22, with five deaths.
