The Mayor of Luderitz, Benjamin Mckay, has hailed the just-ended annual Crayfish Festival at the southern harbour town as a success.

Mckay says this year's festival, which was held under the theme 'Our Ocean, Our Legacy', was bigger and better in every aspect compared to last year.

"This year's festival was actually a huge success; some of the successes are like our gala dinner, where we have almost raised half a million; we raised N$450,000. If we look back to last year's gala dinner, where we raised N$100,000. This year we also had more stalls; last year it was 42 stalls, and this year we have increased it to 62 stalls and also 20 corporate stalls. We also experienced a large crowd of visitors this year. We also had the vessel from the visitors, the passenger vessel from overseas, who have come visit us for the Crayfish Festival."

The harbour town also hosted a business conference as part of the festival, an event Mckay described as a resounding success.

This year's festival, says Mckay, also gave an opportunity to local music artists to showcase their talent while entertaining festivalgoers.

Mckay, who also doubles as the Crayfish Festival Board Chairperson, highlighted that the board, as part of its social responsibility, revamped an old age home, sponsored N$5,000 to each of the eight local schools to buy stationary, and treated prisoners at the Luderitz Correctional Facility with lunch and gifts.
