Electrical power structures are meant to benefit of all.
To raise awareness of electrical safety, the power utility NamPower launched its safety campaign called 'Pasop Stay Safe' at Mariental in the Hardap Region.
The safety campaign is aimed at cautioning the public not to build under or near electricity infrastructures.
It is also illegal and dangerous to start a fire under a power line.
The public is also urged to refrain from illegal electricity connections and removing copper wires.
Culprits found vandalising the infrastructure will be held liable for the cost involved.
"We believe that through this educational campaign, we can get to a point of zero incidences of electric shocks by sensitising our communities to the potential dangers of electricity. Similarly, we believe that incidences of copper theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure can too be eradicated if we sensitize communities to be vigilant and report electricity crimes and hazards, says NamPower's Managing Director, Kahenge Haulofu.
The Pasop Stay Safe campaign is translated in all local languages and broadcast across all national radio stations in the country.
"Mariental mayor, Cherien Kock says, electricity is no longer a luxury but a necessity and we will rely more and more on electricity in the future it is of utmost importance that we learn and be aware of dangers that this basic necessity may pose to our lives".
