The Lotteries Board of Namibia (LBN) is cautioning the public that the multi-million dollar online real estate lottery, the Namibia Property Raffle Project, has not been approved by the board and is thus operating illegally.

The board's warning comes after inquiries by the public regarding the operation of the Namibia Property Raffle Project.

LBN Chairman Michael Mutonga explained that the Namibia Property Raffle Project only applied to conduct this lottery under the Benevolent Society Lotteries.

However, Mutonga said the application was declined at an ordinary meeting held on the 18th of August last year, as the multi-million dollar online real estate lottery did not meet some provisions of the Lotteries Act.

He, therefore, stated that the operation of the Namibia Property Raffle Project is regarded as illegal.

The Lotteries Board of Namibia is in the process of taking appropriate measures as per the Act against the project.

The board also urges the public to comply with the provisions of the Act in matters concerning lotteries, promotional competitions, and benevolent activities to avoid infringement of the law.
