The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the World Health Organisation (WHO) will greatly contribute to Namibia's preparedness in addressing the challenges presented by global pandemics.

President Hage Geingob praised the agreement during a farewell courtesy call by Dr. Charles Sagoe-Moses, outgoing Country Representative of the WHO, at the State House.

Namibia, as a member of the WHO, has greatly benefited from the technical and material support provided by this specialised agency of the UN throughout the years.

The WHO has worked closely with the Ministry of Health in Namibia, and President Geingob acknowledges the significant contributions made by the organisation.

President Geingob says the role played by the WHO cannot be underestimated, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been one of the most devastating health crises.

The President commends the global health body for acting as a strong defence against this disease, which poses a grave threat to humanity.

The MoU aims to enhance emergency preparedness and response, thereby promoting health security.

The WHO now recognises Namibia's preparedness to handle disease outbreaks as remarkable, saying this achievement serves as a testament to the country's significant investment in its healthcare system.

Dr. Charles Sagoe-Moses applauded Dr. Geingob's leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The WHO recently declared the end of COVID-19 a global health emergency.

However, President Geingob has expressed concerns regarding the increasing number of infections.

Last week, the Ministry of Health advised people to continue adhering to precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
