Joseph Sikongo has been re-elected Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Council Management Committee.

Sikongo described his last two and a half years as chairperson as a success.

Titus Shiudifonya and Phillipus Tenga also retained their positions as members of the Management Committee.

Sikongo enumerated several projects executed by the regional council under his leadership, including those in the education and health sectors, water and sanitation, and road construction, among others.

"Construction of more than 140 VIP toilets under the rural sanitation programme; construction of 75 houses under the shack dwellers federation at Rupara village; 32 more are currently under construction; implementation of the rural electrification programme through this programme; close to 10 schools and four villages such as Matende, Karanawa, Bravo Settlement, and Namasira Check Point were electrified."

He says a total of 89 classrooms were constructed at various schools, while other projects are ongoing.

Among those, is the construction of Simanya and Satotwa combined schools through a Chinese government grant.

He says hostel facilities at several schools are under construction, among these at Katjinakatji and Naucova primary schools.

Sikongo says interventions by the Regional Council brought about the return to production at the Musese Green School.

"I should applaud Mr. Mertger for the improved production at Musese Green Schemes because of him we are able to buy maize meal right at Musese and our children are able to receive maize meal for soft porridge for the school feeding program."

Sikongo was pleased to report that 35 boreholes were drilled, 15 sponsored by Recon Africa, and 18 funded by the government.

He is also happy with the ongoing construction of the Charlie Cutline Road, where 41 kilometres gravelling has been completed.

Several government ministries and agencies as well as private businesses are now rendering services at Nkurenkuru, Sikongo believes, are among the council successes.
