Swapo Party veteran Jacob Nangolo, well known as "Kaherero", was buried at Omonawatjihozu Village at the ELCIN Church Cemetery in the Omusati Region.
Mourners gathered in Ongolonongeyama Village for a memorial service to pay tribute to the late Jacob Nangolo, who died on May 24.
Nangolo played a significant role during Namibia's liberation struggle by providing assistance to guerrilla fighters with various needs. His home also served as a covert Swapo office.
In a speech delivered on behalf of President Hage Geingob, emphasised that the late liberation stalwart was a strategic and selfless individual and a true patriot dedicated to seeing Namibia free from colonial occupation.
"To the very end of his days, comrade Kaherero was a committed Swapo Cadre through and through. He was a true son of the soil, a consummate revolutionary who understood that in the fight for one's freedom, bravery and courage are indispensable traits. Today, we salute this brave son and thank him for his acts of valour in the cause of national liberation."
Apart from his involvement in politics, Nangolo was a well-known businessman and a farmer, with his business activities dating back to the colonial era.
Nangolo, who was given an official funeral, died after a brief illness in a hospital in Windhoek.
Sophia Shaningwa, the Secretary General of Swapo, acknowledged Nangolo's invaluable contributions to the party, both before and after independence.
"In the height of the liberation struggle, comrade Kaherero provided financial and material support to the plan combatants. He also provided valuable information to the military wing of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia."
The late Nangolo left behind a remarkable legacy in the realms of politics and community service.
He is survived by his wife, five children, seven grandchildren, and six siblings.
