A delegation led by officials from the Nkurenkuru Town Council and members of the Shack Dwellers Federation visited the Gobabis Municipality to gain exposure to various key development projects.
Gobabis Council recently provided over 100 serviced housing plots to the federation members in response to the housing shortage.
The Chairperson of the Gobabis Municipality Management Committee, Sylvester Binga, stated that development acceleration would require collective efforts.
"We need to learn from each other, we are always in a learning process, so this interaction will give us the opportunity to learn from you guys while you're learning from our people."
Marianne Mahuma, an Artisan sewer officer at Nkurenkuru Town Council, commended the progress made by the Gobabis Municipality, particularly regarding the Shack Dwellers Federation project.
The delegation will also look at other development aspects, such as the Innovation Kitchen Projects.
"We came to see how the Municipality of Gobabis intervenes when it comes to service to learn and to go improve in various sections, and for Kakuro, the newly developed area, we have water ready but electricity is still pending. As time goes on, they have to benefit from electricity and sewer. This is the only problem we saw when we came to Gobabis and saw how they work in this area."
The Coordinator of the Namibia Housing Action Group, Heinrich Amushila, reiterated that providing housing for local communities is one of the main goals of the group.
"With the current economic conditions, the federation, when it comes to land servicing and housing, is the only solution, but with the resources, the only solution for affordable land and housing delivery to the community is upon our honourable Councillor to support these initiatives in order to progress."
The Nkurenkuru Town Council team will conclude its visits at Mariental.
