Former Otjinene regional councillor Adolphus Kangootui was buried over the weekend at Ozombuzovindimba, a cultural heritage site in the Otjinene Constituency of Omaheke Region.

The 68-year-old Kangootui was accorded an official funeral by President Hage Geingob.

In his message of condolences read by Regional Governor Pijoo Nganate, Dr. Hage Geingob described the late Kangootui as a dedicated patriot and a unifying figure during the liberation era.

The President also acknowledged that, despite being a family man, Kangootui made immense contributions to the development of the region and the country at large.

"Indeed, Mr. Kangootui, throughout his life, was a man of purpose and a man who fulfilled his duty to his family, community, and country; that is why we should accord him the respect we deserve as a nation by honouring him with a bidding farewell this weekend, therefore acknowledging his invaluable contribution to the pursuit and attainment of Namibia independence on behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Namibia, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathy to the Kangootui family. May he rest in internal peace," added Geingob.

On behalf of the family, Ismael Toromba expressed gratitude for the government's support during the mourning period.

"I'm very grateful for the government's support during this dark time; we appreciate their effort as the late has contributed a lot to this country."

Among those paying tribute to the late Adolphus Kangootui was Ignatius Kariseb, the Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, who said, "Through his articulate speeches and insightful writings, he had an uncanny ability to convey his message in a way that resonated deeply with his audience. His works had the power to inspire, spark change, and uplift those who sought guidance and direction."

The late Adolphus Kangootui is survived by five children.
