Johannes Trofimus, a talented young amateur boxer hailing from the esteemed MTC Kilimandjaro Boxing Academy, aspires to qualify for an upcoming amateur boxing tournament in Senegal this September.
At the age of 23, Trofimus discovered his passion for boxing when his older brother convinced him to embrace the sport. With dreams of becoming a professional boxer, he aims to represent not only his hometown but also his country and the renowned MTC Kilimandjaro Boxing Academy.
NBC Sport recently had the opportunity to visit the bustling training grounds of MTC Kilimandjaro's boxing gym in Oshakati. There they spoke with Trofimus as he diligently prepares himself for the Olympic qualifiers scheduled in Senegal next month. Reflecting on his journey thus far, he expressed immense happiness about leaving behind street fighting and embracing boxing at an international level where he can proudly represent Namibia. He views this opportunity as a stepping stone towards achieving bigger dreams and goals.
Simultaneously at the same gym, another accomplished professional boxer named Johannes Ferela was seen tirelessly honing his skills in preparation for a local boxing tournament set to take place at Ongwediva Trade Fair come September.
Ferela confidently stated that being chosen by his promoter demonstrates his superior strength compared to others. He expressed genuine delight over this recognition while encouraging youth who may be wandering aimlessly on streets to join gyms like theirs and discover their potential through boxing—an endeavor that has brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
Coach Benhard Joseph of Kilimandjaro Boxing Academy shared heartfelt pride regarding both boxers' progress and development thus far. He conveyed well wishes to Trofimus as he heads off to compete in the upcoming qualifiers, urging him to give his best and follow in Joseph's own footsteps as an Olympian who represented Namibia during the 1996 Atlanta Games. Joseph also mentioned Ferela, a welterweight boxer set to fight on September 1st at Ongwedive Trade Fair against a popular opponent from the northern region. Notably, this opponent was once a former boxer himself but has since transitioned to Bulelo Boxing Academy in Ondangwa.
As Johannes Trofimus eagerly awaits his journey to Senegal on September 5th, we wish both him and Johannes Ferela continued success and fulfillment in their boxing careers. The MTC Kilimandjaro Boxing Academy stands proud behind its talented athletes as they strive for greatness while leaving an indelible mark within the sport of boxing.
