The Zambezi Region's security cluster has launched its festive season safety campaign, code-named Operation Rainbow, which has been described as a symbol of hope, safety, and a promise of a harmonious festive season.
The campaign will increase the visibility of law enforcement officials on roads, border points, and high-risk areas.
"From the security cluster, we will take care of the town and the entire region during this coming festive season, as the operation name speaks. I think we will make sure that the mandate of the police and that of the whole law enforcement in the region is really taken seriously," said Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, head of police in the region.
The cluster is made up of the police, community police, immigration, customs, officials of the Namibia Revenue Authority, correctional services, the NDF, the ministries of agriculture and environment, as well as the Katima Mulilo Town Council.
Speaking at the launch, Katima Mulilo Mayor John Ntemwa asked residents to play their part.
"I urge you to join hands with the police to play your part in making this festive season safe for all. Let us show respect on the roads, act responsibly in our celebrations, and be our brothers and sisters keepers. Lastly, to our visitors and travellers passing through or coming to enjoy the beauty of the Zambezi Region and Katima Mulilo, we warmly welcome you, we encourage you to adhere to the rules, respect our community, and celebrate responsibly."
Ntemwa said that while the campaign aims to combat all criminal activities, special attention will be given to preventing theft, domestic violence, and other crimes that tend to rise during the festive season.
