The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has refuted claims that it has banned click characters.
The Ministry was responding to a publication in a local daily newspaper that reported that the Ministry had turned away an individual whose surname comprises a click character.
The Ministry's Executive Director, Etienne Maritz, dismissed the allegations as untrue, saying the ministry has never implemented any policy that discriminates against any community.
The article in question stated that the Ministry's registration system sparked controversy by supposedly disallowing names with click characters on national documents.
Furthermore, the report alleged that this stance aimed at simplifying record-keeping by avoiding potential confusion and inconsistencies in official documentation.
The Maritz asserts that the publication is inaccurate, malicious, and devoid of any truth, urging the public to be cautious of such misinformation and unethical reporting.
