420 trainees graduated at the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre (WVTC) in Windhoek today (Friday).
Of the graduates, 36% are female and 64% are male.
The Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation, Raimo Naanda, appreciated the positive increase in the number of females taking up technical and vocational education and training courses.
The graduates were urged to work towards becoming self-employed, as this will reduce youth unemployment in the country.
With the discovery of oil and gas and the green hydrogen project on the way, the institution is busy repositioning itself to train students for these new developments.
In total, 963 trainees are expected to graduate from VTC countrywide, and these are graduates from 2019 to June 2023, as the institution was unable to host any graduation ceremonies due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
