The Omusati, Oshana, and Ohangwena regions have taken a significant step towards promoting oral health and hygiene by jointly launching Oral Health Week.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of dental care and encourage the community to prioritise their oral well-being.
Oral Health Week is a campaign aimed at educating residents in both urban and rural areas about the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene practices.
The week-long event will feature various activities, including informative outreach programmes, free dental check-ups, discussions on the impact of diet on oral health, and other interactive sessions with oral health experts.
In a speech read on his behalf, Omusati regional governor Erginus Endjala says that through these efforts, Namibia can significantly reduce the prevalence of dental health issues in their communities.
"With increased governmental health associations and society's support for prevention detection and treatment programmes, in Namibia the oral health department runs two major preventative programmes, one of which is school oral health outreach to clinics all over the country each year, and focused attention is given to schools and community members.'
Dr. Afro-Latin Namakalu says the importance of preventive care aims to empower the community with knowledge and resources to maintain optimal oral health.
In oral health, we also have a holistic approach to preventing diseases through strategies such as promotion, prevention, curative, and rehabilitation. During this campaign, the dental professionals from five different regions came together with a common goal to provide consultations, intraoral examinations, oral health education, and fun educational activities."
Residents are encouraged to actively participate in the events and take advantage of the opportunities presented.
