First Lady Monica Geingos, during an advocacy event at the Organisation of African First Ladies, asserted that closing the gender gap should not be viewed as an act of charity but as an act of justice.
Geingos emphasised that empowering women and girls leads to empowerment at the family, community, and national levels.
Attending a high-level engagement during the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Geingos highlighted the transformative impact of investing in women's education and health, stating that it unlocks the full potential of the African continent.
She stressed the importance of removing barriers that hinder the progress of women and girls, envisioning a future where all Africans can thrive through equal contributions.
Furthermore, Geingos underlined the collaborative effort required from civil societies, governments, the private sector, and international partners to achieve gender equality.
