The Omaheke Regional Council, in partnership with NamPower and CENORED, is set to electrify Okatumba Growth Point in the Otjombinde Constituency.
The six-month project is set to cost N$2.5 million and will start on October 24.
At the site handover at Okatumba Gate, Wenzel Kavaka, councillor of Otjombinde, said that with this new development, the livelihoods of most are set to improve through business opportunities, and temporary job opportunities will be presented to locals during this period of six months.
"The project here will benefit locals a lot, as I have already indicated that Okatumba Gate is an economic hub for our constituency. Remember that I said that we are auctioning around 300–600 cattle per month, so it will boost the economic activity for SMEs once this project is here?"
A consultant, Lukas Shatipamba, assured the community that the contractor would try by all means to provide jobs to locals and called on residents to cooperate.
"My few words would like to implore the community to actually take care of all the materials that are going to be on site so that the project can be expedited and cannot be delayed. Other things are the cooperation between the contractors."
On behalf of the community, a senior traditional councillor, Obed Kamburona, welcomed and acknowledged the efforts of stakeholders to provide them with an essential requirement at Okatumba Gate.
"This shows that this project is really needed, as some of our appliances are idling in our houses waiting for electrification. I'm thankful that everyone is here today, and our stakeholders will see that we needed this."
Okatumba Gate has a population of more than 200 inhabitants.
