A Christian youth event aiming to instill discipline and moral values in young people is being held at Tsumeb.

The 12-day conference, being hosted by the Ebenezer Pentecostal Church in Namibia, attracted over 50 youth from across the country.

The 36th Ebenezer Youth of Namibia Conference is being held during the festive season to resonate with advice and motivational talks on Christian and moral values, teenage pregnancies, gender-based violence, drug abuse, and crime.

Pastor Samuel! Oë-Amseb says the meeting will help train the youth into responsible leaders.

"The vision for this conference is to keep young people busy in Christ during the December school holidays. It further aims to discover the full potential of each young person in the church and to develop that potential. The aim is to train God-fearing leaders with integrity for the work of God and our country, Namibia. You can be a leader, but if you don't have integrity, you will be a failing leader. This conference is very important on the annual calendar of the church; we believe as a church that the young people are the most vulnerable during the December holidays."

!Oë-Amseb said the conference is necessitated by the persistent challenges of unemployment, lack of education, family problems, and drug and alcohol abuse among the youth.

"It further discusses the importance of education because many of the young people, when they fail, think that's the end of the road, but we encourage them to say it's the start of the road."
