Freedom fighter Linda Shihepo was buried at the Eenhana Memorial Shrine in the Ohangwena Region.

The late Shihepo (99), who died on the 8th of last month, was conferred an official funeral.

Her role in the liberation struggle started in the 1960s, when her home accommodated Swapo PLAN fighters.

During her memorial service at Omundundu Village, speaker after speaker reflected on her life journey as someone who stood against oppression and injustice.

In his message of condolences, President Nangolo Mbumba said the late Shihepo displayed a courageous character during the liberation struggle.

"Due to her involvement in the Swapo intelligence operations, the apartheid South Afira security forces arrested Meekulu H. Shihepo in 1984. She endured several months of imprisonment without trial, experiencing intense interrogation and abuse."

Shihepo remained a beacon of hope in the darkest times and aided Swapo's cause towards liberation, unity, liberty, and justice.

She was described as a strategist, teacher, and tower to her family and the community.

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba and Founding President Sam Nujoma also sent messages of condolence.

Shihepo is survived by four children and 22 grandchildren, who described her as a peace-loving person who taught them to shun discrimination among themselves.

Swapo Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa says Shihepo was a warrior of faith, a nurse, and a counsellor whose strategic acumen and fearless leadership contributed significantly to Namibia's victory and sovereignty.
