Landless People's Movement (LPM) Member of Parliament, Utaara Mootu, has tabled a motion in the National Assembly urging prompt transparency and accountability from the government regarding its obligations in bolstering financial support for established and new entrepreneurs.

Mootu's motion seeks a detailed report from relevant government agencies on the spending, outcomes, and effectiveness of initiatives supporting youth entrepreneurship.

The motion is, in addition, another tabled by PDM's Maximalliant Katjimune in April, which called for an investigation into barriers to SME financing in the country.

"The fundamental question is: does this reimagination manifest into a real economic advantage for young entrepreneurs? This strategy lacks the financial input to boost youth entrepreneurship as the core tool for rural entrepreneurship, a proposal for an improved five-year financial plan through the establishment of a Rural Entrepreneurship Fund that will provide low-interest loans and grants while, in collaboration with microfinance institutions, extending financial services to rural areas."

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Peter Katjavivi, and the Minister of Trade and Industrialization, Lucia Iipumbu, recommended the consolidation of Katjimune and Mootu's motions.

"The subject matter is overlapping between the HR and economic committees, so therefore, I would like to suggest that we transfer it to the relevant standing committee with a message from the speaker directed to the committee services so that they can help us ensure that the information contained in that report is shared with the relevant committees in that way we could do justice to the subject matter."
