Dr. Natalia Kanem, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has recognised the transformative impact of women in leadership roles.
During the 3rd Nalafem Summit, Dr. Kanem highlighted the profound influence that educated and economically empowered women and girls have on the future of humanity.
"UNFPA advocates for strong legal frameworks and protective measures to ensure the safety of women leaders. This safety should extend to their participation in the political and public sphere, both online and offline."
She also draws attention to the prevalence of digital violence aimed at harming and silencing women. She emphasizes the importance of safeguarding women's universal right to technology without fear or intimidation.
"That is why UNFPA's #bodyrightcampaign urges policymakers, tech companies, and social media platforms to take action against online bullying and misogyny. We need to ensure a safe online sphere. On the other hand, we recognize that technology has the potential to be used for good... the most acute."
