The Namibian Exile Kids Association (NEKA) has embarked on initiatives aiming at mobilising its members to register and participate in the upcoming elections.
NEKA's Executive Committee, led by its President Kadiva Hamutumwa, briefed President Nangolo Mbumba on this and other developments preoccupying the organisation a while ago at State House.
NEKA says it too is concerned over the low turnout of eligible Namibians registering to vote in the November elections.
Joining in the voices to appeal to increase the numbers, Hamutumwa says NEKA has targeted initiatives to encourage its membership.
"We are currently running a project throughout the 14 regions of the country, where we are mobilising NEKA members, children of the liberation struggle, to first and foremost register to vote and also to prepare all their national documentation to exercise their rights as citizens."
President Mbumba reiterated that the registration process should be participated in by all eligible Namibians, irrespective of affiliation.
He says the aim is for the outcome of the elections to reflect the number of registered voters.
"The other day I was saying if people were ready to go to prison, ready to go into the bush to fight for independence, and we are unable to say, Stand up, go register, get the card, why is that such a difficult thing for citizens to do? We were even thinking some of you should appear on TV; wherever we go, we must talk, register, and vote because we want the results of the election to be a clear demonstration of the number of voters we have and the number of people who have voted."
President Mbumba currently serves as the patron of the Namibian Exile Kids Association.
