The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) has introduced crop producer registration cards to improve market access for farmers in the Zambezi Region.
The cards will play a crucial role in providing crop market access and recognition by serving as proof of farmers' status as legitimate farmers, especially when dealing with buyers, traders, and government agencies.
"Farmers can participate in collective marketing initiatives, connect with other producers, and access information, especially in terms of production. We are also able to reach our farmers in case we want to provide training in terms of production and marketing because now we have their information in our database," explained Loide Uahengo, the Manager of Agronomy Development.
She added that it will also assist in tracing farmers to specific crops, ensuring food safety, and meeting certification requirements.
The governor of the Zambezi Region, Alufea Sampofu, encouraged farmers to take full advantage of the crop producer cards as well as register themselves with the agronomic board.
"So it doesn't mean that when you have this card then you start saying that it's enough; this is just for you to get all these benefits; work hard, harder, so that you produce more; our markets are within our country; for those who can, you can even market outside the country; it's allowed; it's very important, so we wish you all the best."
Sampofu said that the producer cards will open doors to new opportunities and partnerships, ultimately leading to better market prices and improved income for crop producers.
