A new entrant to Namibia's political landscape has been announced.
The United Namibians Party (UNP) has applied to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) to be registered as a political party.
ECN's Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer, Peter Shaama, gave notice that UNP, a Rundu-based party, has applied to be registered.
This notice, in line with Section 136 of the Electoral Act, was published in the Government Gazette.
The notice lists Sakaria Amos Likuwa as UNP's leader, holding the title of Chief Servant; the Vice Chief Servant is Alfons Hausiku; and the National Chairperson is Michael Muraghuli.
The ECN has 30 days in which to make known its decision on the UNP's application. During this period, any registered political party or a person who intends to object to the notice for registration may lodge such objection with their reason for his or her objection to ECN.
