Omusati region governor Erginus Endjala emphasized the importance of sport development within his region, despite the lack of facilities.
The region clinched the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup held from March 29 to April 1, 2024, in Gobabis. This marked the second victory for Omusati in this prestigious competition, following their first win in 2015.
Omusati Governor Erginus Endjala highlighted the region's sporting excellence, while expressing disappointment over the lack of facilities for sports activities.
''However, it's equally disappointing that since independence, Omusati, as the third most populated region in Namibia, continues to lag behind in terms of sports facilities. Disappointingly, we've learned that N$3 million was allocated this year for the design and layout of our Outapi Sport Complex, but there has been no progress report so far'' he said.
Endjala further noted that the region has undeniably demonstrated its diverse sporting talent, which warrants development.
The governor emphasized the importance of sports in promoting unity, health, and social cohesion within the Omusati region.
He urged local communities to actively participate in and support sporting activities.
By investing in sports facilities and fostering a culture of sportsmanship, Omusati can continue to produce talented athletes who can represent the region and the nation at the highest levels of competition.
