Stakeholders and farming communities in the Omaheke Region are on a two-day seminar deliberating on the effects of climate change that led to recurring drought.

They agreed that there is an urgent need for communities to develop resilient mechanisms such as drought-resistant crops, livestock, and water storage.

Programme Officer at the National Development Trust, Helao Shipani, stated that the gathering covered areas such as land restoration, reforestation, and mixed farming techniques, which are crucial to reducing the effects of drought.

Shipani further advised farmers to explore solar and wind energy to reduce carbon emissions, which also play a pivotal role towards climate change.

"I would like them to go back to their communities and to sensitise their fellow community members that were not able to attend this training and to really incorporate what they have been told in this training and to start diversifying their different farming techniques and to really embrace green energy."

Participants also shared their stories of how the drought affected them.
