Around 60 Namibian Members of Parliament are among 600 parliamentarians from 73 countries who signed a letter to the United Nations denouncing US President Joe Biden's designation of Cuba as a "state sponsor of terrorism."

The MPs are demanding the removal of this label before the end of his presidency in January 2025, arguing that this designation undermines dignity, decency, and the integrity of the United Nations Charter.

This collective action by the different countries from across the world reflects ongoing international criticism of U.S. policies toward Cuba, particularly the implications of being labelled a state sponsor of terrorism.

The designation carries severe restrictions on Cuba, and the MPs' statement highlights a broader call for improved relations and recognition of Cuba's efforts in counter-terrorism and international cooperation.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the National Council met with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today.

Muha is on a visit to Cuba, where he, among others, attended an International Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy.

During his engagements, he highlighted the impact of the US-imposed economic blockade on Cuba, warning that it threatens the stability of that country and its people.
