Namibia's export earnings stood at N$8.7 billion in August this year. This figure represents a decline of 12.7% from N$10 billion recorded in July 2024.
The import bill for the month under review stood at N$12.3 billion. This is an increase of 1.9% from N$12 billion recorded during the preceding month.
These figures are contained in the International Merchandise Statistics Bulletin and released by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA).
The report stated that South Africa emerged as Namibia's largest market for both exports and imports.
The composition of the export basket for the month of August mainly comprised minerals such as precious stones (diamonds), non-monetary gold, petroleum oils, and 'nickel ores and concentrates.
Fish remained the only non-mineral product within the top five products exported.
In addition, Namibia exported salt worth N$59 million and imported N$1.4 million worth of the same commodity.
Namibia also exported food items with a trade surplus of N$223 million.
