Teachers and learners are back at Ndama Junior Primary School after lessons were suspended for a week following a water crisis.

It was business as usual at Ndama Junior Primary School when the news team paid the establishment a visit on Thursday morning.

The air was fresh and there were no faeces to be seen.

Water was running, the septic tank was emptied, so the toilets were working just fine.

"Learners are very happy to report, and teachers were busy teaching. Despite the turn-up of learners today being just not 100%, learners and teachers are busy working around the clock to capitalise on the time lost. The atmosphere is very happy and friendly. The toilets are working, and the water is there. The environment is now conducive for teaching and learning," said Asser Kandere, Chief Education Officer in the Kavango East Region.

Kandere said various stakeholders joined hands to make teaching and learning at Ndama Junior Primary School possible again.

With a majority of schools in the region still using septic tanks, Kandere is asking schools to inform the directorate on time.

"We have said to the schools, please, they should inform us as soon as they observe that the septic tank is about to get full so that at least we can now go on board and at least empty the septic tanks. We don't want to wait again until the situation we went through."
