City of Windhoek's mayor, Queen Kamati, urged residents to refrain from stealing trees that are being planted in various parts of the city.

Kamati made this call as the City of Windhoek joined the world in commemorating Arbor Day, with 128  trees being planted to foster a green city.

Arbour Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of urban greenery and biodiversity.

The day remains vital to the City of Windhoek, promoting the significance of sustainable green spaces, water conservation, and the planting of indigenous trees to combat the effects of climate change.

Kamati encouraged Windhoek residents to continue working towards building a greener and more sustainable future for all.

"As we plant these trees in our community, let us also plant the seeds of commitment and responsibility towards our city, towards our schoolchildren, and towards the general residents. Let us inspire one another and care for our environment every day, not just on Arbor Day. The greenery donation and FNB Namibia's commitment to our community and the environment are truly commendable."

The trees and flower boxes will be planted in high-traffic areas and distributed across council facilities, community centres, and schools.

This event is a collaboration between the City Council and FNB Namibia, aimed at beautifying public spaces and addressing environmental challenges.

This year's Arbor Day is celebrated under the theme "Forest and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World".
