Residents of the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency convened to discuss rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and its correlation with the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The event was aimed at raising awareness among all demographic groups' women, men, and children about the alarming trend of GBV cases in the area.
The impact of GBV extends into mental health issues, economic instability, and higher rates of HIV transmission, highlighting the need for comprehensive community support and intervention strategies.
GBV poses a significant challenge, particularly in the Tobias Hainyeko constituency, where traditional gender roles can perpetuate violence.
Its councillor says violence affects not only women who face the brunt of physical and emotional abuse but also men and children, who may witness or experience trauma.
Local stakeholders, including the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision Initiative, Project Hope Initiatives, and the Ministry of Health and Social Services, participated in the event.
They highlighted the services available to support victims of GBV and encouraged residents to seek help and not succumb to it.
