Veteran trade unionist Alfred Angula has died.

Angula's body was discovered on Tuesday at his home in Otjomuise in Windhoek.

Speaking to nbc News, Cuana Angula a brother of the late Angula said the discovery of the body was made after Angula missed his dialysis appointment.

This prompted his daughter to go check on her father at his house only to discover that he was lifeless. 

It is unclear at the moment when he died as most of his family members were away on holiday.

Angula suffered from diabetes which affected his kidneys, 

Late Angula a prominent unionist, started his career in his hometown Tsumeb in 1988, before moving to Windhoek in 1994.

He was appointed as the National Education Coordinator for the National Union of Namibian Workers, also serving at one point as its Secretary General. 

Angula a former unionist himself, described his brother as a person who was passionate about union affairs and was very vocal on farmworkers matters when he led the Namibian Farm Workers Union.

He leaves behind his wife Charity and seven children

The funeral is set for Saturday the 11th of January at Tsumeb.
