Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo stated that Shell's announcement regarding the unviability of discoveries in PEL39 is unfortunate but will not hinder Namibia's oil and gas development. 

Alweendo, on his LinkedIn profile, expressed optimism about the remaining potential in PEL39 and ongoing exploration campaigns, highlighting TotalEnergies' progress in Block 2913B and Galp's efforts in the Mopane complex. 

Chevron is also drilling the Kapana 1X well. 

These activities, Alweendo says, reflect a strong international commitment to Namibia's offshore resources, with expectations for commercial opportunities and first oil production in the near future.
