Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has praised officers in the Zambezi Region for their commitment to reducing crime.
Speaking in Katima Mulilo on Thursday, Shikongo acknowledged the officers' daily efforts in maintaining law and order, attributing the region’s decline in crime to their visible presence.
“There are people who might be complaining, but they are not contributing positively towards crime prevention. Crime is not only the responsibility of the police; it is a shared responsibility. The community needs to do more,” Shikongo said.
He also commended volunteers from crime prevention forums, highlighting their role in strengthening community policing.
“That’s why we have decided that in the next intake, instead of five, we will recruit ten people per region from the crime prevention forums into training,” he added.
The Inspector General further praised the officers for ensuring peace and security during the November national elections.
In addition, he announced the extension of Zambezi Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo’s term for another year, until September 2026.
