The Ministry of Environment is urging farmers and communities in the Tsumeb and Oshivelo areas to exercise caution and protect themselves and their livestock while officials continue to track two lions spotted in the region on Saturday.

In a statement, the ministry's spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, reported receiving notifications of two separate lion incidents.

He explained that a female lion was seen between Tsumeb and Oshivelo. Environment officials determined, through tracks found in the area, that this lion is part of a pride consisting of two adult lions and four cubs located on Onguma Farm, north of Tsumeb.

Muyunda noted that the female lion ventured out from the farm and was captured on a viral video by

travelers. The lion was then tracked to the neighboring Punyu Farm.

He mentioned that the areas where the lion was observed are within a commercial section of a private farm, which reduces the risk of encounters with humans.

Another lion has been reported near Oromowa, located on the western edge of the Etosha National Park, and it is suspected to have come out of the park.

Muyunda stated that they are actively tracking this lion and cautioned communities in the vicinity to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of their livestock.

The Ministry of Environment has not received any reports of livestock losses, damages, or attacks on humans in the two areas.
