President Nangolo Mbumba has said that "a loser will always be disappointed."
His remarks come as opposition candidates Dr. Panduleni Itula and Bernadus Swartbooi challenge the election outcome in the Supreme Court, citing alleged irregularities and calling for re-election.
In response to the legal challenge, Mbumba’s legal team in Court documents argue that the elections were conducted lawfully, with no breach of the law.
They say that the results were decisive, with the President-elect securing 638,560 votes, compared to Dr. Itula’s 284,106 votes and Swartbooi’s 51,160 votes.
"The will of the people made the winner clear," the court documents state.
The legal team further argues that for a court to order re-election, the applicants must prove a legal violation that materially affected the outcome, something they claim neither candidate has demonstrated.
President Mbumba further points out that the opposition does not dispute the vote count, the accuracy of ballot scrutiny, or the mathematics of the election results, adding that Itula and Swartbooi are raising “petty complaints” without providing evidence of irregularities that could have altered the outcome.
Since each ballot was properly scrutinized and accounted for, the results remain uncontested in terms of accuracy, argues Mbumba.
The Supreme Court is set to hear the matter next Monday.
