
Donations have started trickling in for the two centres at Onamhinda A and B in the Ohangwena Region, where over 200 people have been temporarily relocated from their homes following heavy flooding.
A total of five constituencies in the Ohangwena Region have thus far been affected by the massive inflow of water due to heavy rainfalls received over the past weeks.
The situation looks grim for many of these residents, mainly women and children.
The majority of the population accommodated at these temporary shelters are regulars and say they have no hope of being relocated to other areas, citing the scarcity of land in the rural areas.
Teresia Petrus was in tears as the regional governor, alongside his top management, announced the donation – made up of food parcels and mosquito nets – aimed at ensuring they have something to eat.
The 52-year-old is a regular here and says she is grateful that the government and good Samaritans continuously assist them in their time of need.
